Some strains impress you with yield. Some impress you with bag appeal. And some immediately stand out because the aroma alone is unforgettable.
While the yield wasn’t anything to go crazy about, the bag appeal and aroma of Jelly Donutz from Humboldt Seed Co. is something that every grower should experience.
From the moment this plant hit mid flower and started fading into deep purple hues, it was clear this was going to be a special one. Between the vibrant coloration, easygoing growth, and one of the best terpene profiles I’ve personally grown, this cultivar absolutely lived up to expectations.
This is my full Jelly Donutz grow review, covering everything from germination to cure.

Germination & Early Seedling Stage
For this run, I germinated just one Jelly Donutz seed, and it was successful!
This time I used a very simple germination method:
- Seed placed in a shot glass of water
- Stored inside a kitchen cabinet to keep it dark and cool
- Left soaking for about 3 days
- Once the tap root was long enough, it was planted into a red solo cup
The solo cup was filled with Fox Farms Coco Loco, which continues to be one of my favorite mediums for growing cannabis.
The seedling stage lasted 10 days, and the plant established itself without any issues.

Vegetative Growth (48 Days)
After approximately 3 weeks in the solo cup, the plant was transplanted into its final container:
- 3-gallon fabric pot
- Filled with Fox Farms Coco Loco
During transplant, canopy PPFD was increased significantly:
- Started around 225 PPFD
- Increased to approximately 440 PPFD at canopy top
Because this grow took place during winter, an oil heater was placed inside the tent to help maintain temperatures high enough for healthy development.
That extra environmental control helped keep the plant thriving during colder months.
Watering & Nutrient Schedule
Each watering used roughly 3 quarts of water, although slightly more likely could have been used.
One unique aspect of this grow was that nutrients were not introduced until day 33 of veg.
Once feeding began:
- General Hydroponics Flora Trio: every other watering
- CalMag: every watering
- pH maintained: 6.2–6.6
This simple feeding routine worked very well with no issues throughout the cycle.

Unique Training Method (Custom LST Clip Technique)
For this grow, I experimented with a custom low-stress training method.
Instead of traditional tie-down wire, I cut small pieces of training wire and bent them into S-shaped clips.
These homemade clips were placed at strategic points on branches to:
- Bend branches outward
- Open the canopy
- Improve light penetration
- Create a more even top canopy
This ended up working extremely well and is a technique I’ve used multiple times since because it is just so easy and effective.

Flowering Stage (63 Days)
Jelly Donutz really became visually impressive during flower.
By mid flower, the plant began fading into a beautiful purple color, which deepened significantly toward harvest.
By the end of the cycle, the buds had darkened even more, creating outstanding visual appeal and bag appeal.
This was one of the most attractive flowering plants I’ve grown.

Smell, Taste & Terpene Profile
This is easily one of the strongest parts of this Jelly Donutz strain review.
The smell and flavor were outstanding.
The terpene profile was dominated by:
- Deep sweet grape candy
- Floral sweetness
- Smooth sugary finish
It’s honestly one of the best smelling and tasting strains I’ve personally grown, and it ranks very close to Blueberry Muffin for overall terpene quality.
This is a strain you grow for flavor.
Harvest, Drying & Cure
To harvest the cannabis plant, it was cut at the base and hung whole upside down in the tent.
Dry Conditions
- Temperature: ~60°F
- Humidity: ~60% RH
- Dry time: 12 days
After drying, it was trimmed over a trim bin to collect trichomes and then transferred into Grove Bags for curing.
This process helped preserve both smoothness and terpene expression.
Final Yield
Final trimmed yield: 58g (2.05 oz)
While the quality was exactly what I hoped for, I definitely would have liked a larger yield.
That said, there were two other plants sharing the 2×4 tent, which limited available space.
The use of 3-gallon pots also naturally capped overall growth potential.
Given those space constraints, the quality absolutely made up for the smaller harvest.
