How We Review Cannabis Strains

This page explains exactly how strains are grown, documented, and evaluated so you know what goes into every review published on this site.

Real Grows, Not Rewritten Information

Every strain review on The HighWay is based on actual cultivation.

That means:

  • Strains are grown in a controlled indoor environment
  • Observations are recorded throughout the full grow cycle
  • Results reflect real plant behavior, not breeder descriptions alone

When you read a review here, you are seeing how a strain performed in a real setup, from seed to harvest to consumption.

The Growing Process

Each strain is followed through its full lifecycle, including:

Throughout the process, notes are taken on how the plant responds to its environment, feeding schedule, and any training methods used.

While the core setup remains consistent, seasonal changes (such as temperature and humidity shifts) can influence results, just like they would for any real grower. These variables are considered when evaluating each strain.

Controlled Setup & Consistency

To keep comparisons as fair and useful as possible, strains are typically grown under a consistent indoor setup, including:

  • The same grow tent environment
  • Consistent lighting system
  • Similar nutrient and feeding approach

Multiple strains are often grown side-by-side under the same conditions. This allows for more direct comparison between genetics, highlighting differences in growth behavior, resilience, and overall performance.

At the same time, occasional experimentation, such as different training techniques, is part of the process and is documented when relevant.

What We Track and Evaluate

Rather than assigning arbitrary scores, each strain is evaluated through a combination of documented data and real-world experience.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Growth characteristics and structure
  • Flowering time and overall cycle length
  • Yield and flower development
  • Plant resilience and ease of growth
  • Unique traits observed during cultivation
  • Personal consumption experience and effects

Every review aims to capture both the objective performance of the plant and the subjective experience of using it.

What Matters Most in Our Reviews

While many factors are considered, the most important elements in each evaluation are:

  1. Effects – overall experience, potency, and how the strain feels
  2. Terpene Profile – aroma, flavor, and complexity
  3. Yield – how the plant performs in terms of output
  4. Ease of Growth – how manageable the strain is throughout the cycle

This order reflects real-world priorities for both growers and consumers.

Original Data & Photography

All strain review content on The HighWay is original.

  • All photos are taken during actual grows
  • Images are minimally edited to reflect real conditions
  • All notes, observations, and data come directly from cultivation

No stock images are used in strain reviews, and no reviews are generated from third-party content.

From Harvest to Experience

Strain reviews do not end at harvest.

Each review also includes:

  • Drying and curing observations (when applicable)
  • Aroma and flavor breakdown
  • Personal smoking or consumption experience
  • Overall impression after use

This full-cycle approach provides a more complete understanding of each strain beyond just how it grows.

Independence & Transparency

The HighWay is an independent project.

  • Reviews are not influenced by sponsorships or paid placements
  • Affiliate links may be used in some content, but they do not impact how strains are evaluated
  • All opinions and conclusions are based on actual grow results and personal experience

The goal is to provide information that is as useful, honest, and grounded in real cultivation as possible.

Our Approach Moving Forward

Cannabis is a constantly evolving space, and no two grows are ever exactly the same.

The goal of The HighWay is not to present one “perfect” way to grow or evaluate strains but to document real results, highlight meaningful differences, and continue building a reliable body of knowledge over time.

Each grow adds to that understanding.
